101 Dalmatians / WALL-E & Eve / Gameboy Lego

We've been on a bit of a LEGO kick lately. Partially because our "to-build" pile has been getting out of hand but also because our day-to-day lives have slowed down a little bit after a very hectic and sometimes difficult start to the year. There's something to be said for the relaxing flow of building LEGO while watching reruns of Taskmaster or an old John Hughes film.

Our first build of the year was the 101 Dalmatians Lucky and Penny set. This is a smaller set coming in at under 300 pieces. In the same way that I enjoy a HG Gundam, I like these smaller sets because there is a nice pace to them in terms of the build coming together (and not having to find ways to put things aside half-built with a real dog sniffing around the room.

LEGO have used the base of these models before, we've got a few of these LEGO doggies around the house now and they are very nice. This is a fun little set and very reasonably priced.

For Christmas I picked up the LEGO WALL-E and Eve set for Sarah. She adores WALL-E and I had heard that this particular set was very highly regarded. This was a super fun build. It's very cute and felt like good value for money in terms of time spent building and all the little features of the set such as M-O and WALL-Es trash compactor. As someone who hasn't really built much LEGO Technic, I found the treads to be very cool and different for a build. Looking at the set on our mantle now, it absolutely stands out as one of the finest sets we've built.

Finally, we built the LEGO Gameboy set. This was a set that I was so excited for when it was announced and I picked it up at Comic Con last year with a small discount. Visually I just think this is such a cool concept and there's a great tactile feel to the buttons. It's got a lovely display stand so I am looking forward to making some space for it on my Nintendo shelf.

As a kid I had a Gameboy colour but the nostalgia for the shape absolutely transfers over here. I'd love to see Nintendo expand on this line with versions of the GBC, GBA or even the DS. LEGO sets that are essentially props are just super cool and I hope that, with time, these lines expand a little bit further to include things that cater more to my nostalgia as, while they are very cool sets, the NES for example just doesn't hit for me.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this build and love the end result. This is such a fantastic set.
