All Systems Red
All Systems Red is the first Novella in the Murderbot series. It came at the recommendation of my brother and, after picking up a beautiful set of the books at comic con, I finally had the chance to dive in.
This is a very straightforward novella, but a couple of things really stood out for me. One is the similarities to Alien in its hints at a wider world - we don't see a whole lot of this universe, and, in the grand scheme, there isn't a huge amount of plot development here but I really felt like I was experiencing a small story set in a wider universe which gave me the itch to read more of the series.
Secondly, I just really love the idea of this cyborg designed to guard/murder that secretly just wants to watch the Golden Girls. I found that it was such an easy sell as a concept and, once I heard that, I was thinking "yeah I'd read all these books and watch the TV show" just on the premise alone.
Overall I had a lot of fun with this one and I'm excited for more.
