Philosopher's Stone (2025) Audiobook
It has been increasingly difficult for me to separate the way that I felt about Harry Potter as a kid with how I feel about Joanne as an adult. Obviously, I don't want to support something that is now so closely tied to beliefs that I find abhorrent. Therefore, I will start each of these little thoughts entries by noting that I "borrowed" this audiobook.
Now, as someone who has read, watched and listened to the Philosopher's Stone many times over the years I didn't enter this new full cast audiobook with particularly high expectations. I was intrigued by some of the casting and thought I might see how it plays out. I admit, I think the narrator and cast do a fine job of giving a cinematic feel to scenes that the movie adaptation simply didn't have time to show.
Hugh Laurie and Mark Addy were stand-outs for me. One being a fine homage to Robbie Coltrane and the other being a surprising but enjoyable choice. Additionally having the various musical cues and sound effects helps bring a book filled with magic to life.
It's really enjoyable - and the first audiobook since Project Hail Mary that I have actively recommended to people who don't normally listen to audiobooks.
Do ask around and borrow from a friend :)
