Axe Club
We were given tickets to Axe Club for Christmas. We are usually more likely to frequent a spa than an Axe throwing club but we were happy to drop in for the afternoon to see what all the fuss is about.
The venue in North Wall is relatively small and hidden away. Parking nearby isn't great but we were able to find a spot that wasn't too long of a walk away. They have a small café that didn't seem to be open and then just the 6 targets for throwing. It doesn't seem like a lot but they break it into groups and do some teaching, some throwing, some teaching, some throwing etc. This is done in a way that you're not standing around too long and you're also not just throwing again and again which I could see becoming a bit monotonous.
The instructor has you practice one and two-handed throwing before starting a little competition. At the very beginning they have you guess where on the leader board you might fall so it is fun to see how overconfident some people are going in. I think I finished up in 5th spot which was a good bit higher than expected - I had a few rounds in the middle that went very well.
The hour goes by really fast but it is good fun. I think it is probably too far of a trip for us for it to be really worth it but this is the kind of thing that would be fantastic if you live close-by. Pop in for the hour and ramble home afterwards. For us, the only negative was that we spent twice as long travelling there and back as we did actually in the Axe Club so it just felt like a long day for not a huge amount of experience.
Overall, it is good fun and I would recommend it if you have a club locally. The bigger the group you can bring the better for sure as it is very much a competitive group activity.
