RX-78-2 Con Exclusive Edition

When it comes to the backstory or history of various Gundam models, I'm far from an expert. I recognise certain names - TurnA, Exia, Tallgeese - but for the most part, I buy model kits based on how they look. I tend to prefer more unique looking designs, especially if they're not just another 95% white model kit.

The RX-78-2 model probably stands above all others. It's from the original Mobile Suit Gundam, it's design is everywhere - even making it into Ready Player One - and it really is the perfect example of a classic Gundam design. I have a real soft spot for this one and I've built it previously at a few different grades.

This particular release is an Entry Grade kit that recolours the set to be black with blue accents. I believe it is part of a set of recolours sold by Bandai at conventions - I picked up mine at MCM London and it was very reasonably priced.

The set itself is slick. The recolour really pops and I think it really shows off the strong silhouette of this design. There are some stickers but I think less is more here and I prefer to keep this one as clean as possible.

The build is straightforward enough and didn't take too long. This kind of suits me lately as I've had less time for bigger projects. It's nice to sit down, watch a movie and have the kit built by the time the credits roll.

Overall, if you attend a convention selling these sets, I think the RX-78-2 offers really good value and is a great piece for the shelf.
