Movie Thoughts: Straight Up (2019)
"Two out of Three isn't so bad"
Straight Up is a movie that really resonated with me. It's less about the question of whether Todd is gay or not and more an exploration of the intricacies of a real relationship. The movie navigates the impact of ADHD, OCD and autism on relationships and how certain conditions can make the question of who I am and what I want a much more difficult question to answer.
People make sacrifices in relationships and often in Hollywood this is boiled down to a single, pivotal decision to be together rather than the reality of evolving personalities, work opportunities, cost of living and family expectations.
I think this movie will particularly connect with people who also experience life with ADHD or Autism but to me it felt so real. The dialogue really reminded me of my relationship with my own partner which was really wonderful to see in a movie setting.
I highly recommend this one, well worth the watch.
