Movie Thoughts: The Martian (2015)
"I'm going to have to science the shit out of this!"
I've seen this movie a couple of times now and even read the novel by Andy Weir. Both the book and the movie are very charming; I really like the way Weir writes characters. It's quite striking how, looking back at the movie, it comes across as fun and light-hearted even though the circumstances that Watney finds himself in are harrowing.
Ultimately, this is an easy film to recommend. Visually it is stunning, the cast are all fantastic and the science of the movie is very interesting. I am very hopeful that the next Andy Weir adaptation, the mesmerising Project Hail Mary, turns out half as good as The Martian.
