The Other Guys (2010)
"Aim for the bushes?"
This is a really dumb movie - and it is honestly one of the last of these bigger-budget slapstick comedies that I remember getting a big theatrical release and response. It used to be that you could go to the cinema once or twice a month to see one of these big vehicles for Adam Sandle, Will Ferrell or some of the other big comedy stars - now it's mostly smaller fair that goes straight to streaming.
As a relic of the early 2000s, The Other Guys holds up really well. Mark Walhberg often gets a lot of flak but I feel that he really shines as the straight guy in comedies like these and I love that he seems to embrace these roles. I would have expected his persona and tough guy image to be something he wouldn't be willing to risk but by diving into this role he frees himself up to be the highlight of the movie.
The supporting cast is fantastic; with Michael Keaton a favourite of mine and Samuel L Jackson helping to set the tone for the entire movie. Occasionally some of the jokes don't hold up or hit quite as hard as one would like but overall I still think this is a highly enjoyable film and worth a watching on your sofa for some quick laughs.
