Silverworks Wedding Ring Workshop
We are making great progress with our wedding preparations. It can feel a bit all-consuming at times - between venues, outfits, music and everything in between. The next stop on our preparation journey was to Silverworks on George's Street. Here, we participated in the Wedding Ring workshop where we got to forge our own rings for the big day.
Silverworks is in a narrow little building with way too many flights of stairs for a hot day but once you get into the workshop area itself you have plenty of space with the huge tables to work on. The wedding workshop is only for small groups, so you work alongside 3 other couples at most which is really nice. It was lovely getting to sit with a group of people all excited to get married and talking about the different approaches they are all taking to this adventure.
One of the ladies had been given a ribbon of gold from her mother to use and that couple were eloping to Italy for their big day. Another couple were just having a meal with close family. There was lovely chat all around and a great buzz in general.
The workshop was led by two members of staff who were both lovely. They had a great dynamic - and were both clearly incredible skilled at their jobs. We felt very welcome and were offered drinks and snacks throughout.
We started the process off by cutting our strips of metal to the required sizes. Then bent our metals into a vaguely ringlike shape and from there put them onto these metal rods. The rods were like very heavy wands so after a couple "swish and flicks" we got to work shaping the rings. This was done by smacking them with a mallet - I liked this part a lot!
The team take over for the more hazardous segments where the rings are soldered and then heated very quickly to smooth out the seam. From here they are treated in an acidic mixture, cooled and given back to us for smoothing out. At the end, they take notes on any customisation you want such as engravings or gemstones. Mine has a small Ruby star in it with an engraving and Sarah went for a row of lab-grown diamonds to match her engagement ring.
It is a lovely collaborative experience, and I would absolutely love to attend another one of their workshops. They do a Claddagh Ring one so we could live our Buffy and Angel experience. Ultimately this was a really enjoyable experience, and it was nice, after all of the emails and phone calls about wedding planning in general, to finally hold something real in our hands.
